'A LIFE IN YOUR HANDS'
If a child lives with criticism,
He learns to condemn.
If a child lives with hostility,
He learns to fight.
If a child lives with ridicule,
He learns to be shy.
If a child lives with shame,
He learns to feel guilty.
If a child lives with tolerance,
He learns to be patient.
If a child lives with encouragement,
He learns confidence.
If a child lives with praise,
He learns to appreciate.
If a child lives with fairness,
He learns justice
If a child lives with security,
He learns to have faith.
If a child lives with approval,
He learns to like himself.
If a child lives with acceptance and friendship,
He learns to find love in the world.
The poem in its original form refers to He, the philosophy applies equally to both boys and girls.
The School
There are are over 400 pupils aged from 4 to 11 years pupils attending Chalk Ridge Primary School. The children in our school are well behaved, Ofsted Inspectors made particular reference to the excellent way that the children conduct themselves.
The children at our school follow a wide, rich and balanced curriculum. We have been praised for the quality of the work of the school and highlighted a number of strengths.
Particular praise has been given to:
* The quality of teaching in some of the classes.
* The quality of provision for the under fives.
* The high standards in the core subjects in the infant classes.
* The strong work in English in the upper junior classes.
A full copy of the Ofsted reports for the school can be found here or by asking at the school.
There are nine subjects in the National Curriculum that are taught in all schools in England and Wales. Government Policy ensures that your children are given significant tuition in English and Mathematics. These, together with Science, Information Communication Technology and Religious Education, are considered as the most important “core” subjects.
The “foundation” subjects are: History, Geography, Design and Technology, Art, Physical Education and Music.
Full details of the subjects taught at Chalk Ridge Primary School are available in the School Brochure
The school believes that effective learning is strongly enhanced by a home - school partnership. Homework is used to:
* consolidate and reinforce skills and understanding, particularly in literacy and numeracy
* exploit resources for learning, of all kinds, at home
* extend school learning
* encourage pupils, as they get older, to develop the confidence and self discipline needed to study on their own
* prepare the older children for the requirements of secondary school
At our school the above will be addressed through:
* regular homework for all children which builds progressively from Year R to Year 6
* work closely linked with that undertaken in class
* regular dialogue between home and school i.e. Reading Diaries and Homework Diaries
* careful monitoring by the staff of work completed
* informing parents of arrangements
* a home/school agreement
